Meghalaya Gets First Electric Train, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw Shares Video

Indian Railways within the northeastern state of Meghalaya will function its first-ever electrical trains on account of the electrification of two vital routes, based on an announcement from the Railways. By commissioning a 22.823 track-kilometre single-line part of the Dudhnai-Mendipathar and a 34.59 track-kilometre double-line part between Abhayapuri and Pancharatna on March 15, the Northeast Frontier Railway reached the milestone.

In an announcement, the Railways mentioned that presently Mendipathar is the one railway station within the north-eastern state of Meghalaya which is in operation since 2014 after being inaugurated by the prime minister.

After the commissioning of electrical traction, trains hauled by electrical locomotive will now be capable of function straight from Mendipathar in Meghalaya, growing the common pace.

“Extra passenger and freight carrying trains will be capable of function by these sections with full sectional speeds. Punctuality can even improve on this part. Parcel and freight carrying trains hauled by electrical locomotives from different states will be capable of attain Meghalaya straight,” the assertion mentioned.

Electrification will considerably enhance the mobility of trains in northeast India. Along with the discount in air pollution as a result of shift from fossil gasoline to electrical energy, the effectivity of the Railway system within the area can even enhance, the assertion mentioned.
